Replacing the first-generation Kindle and the Kindle Fire Tablet, Amazon just announced the new Kindle Fire HD Tablet which will be available in a 7-inch or an 8.9-inch model.
The new Kindle Fire HD measures only 8.8mm thin and weighs only 20 ounces. The Fire HD that comes with an 8.9-inch touchscreen 1920 x 1200 display will be powered by a TI OMAP 4470 processor, there are a pair of integrated speakers, a front-facing HD camera, an HDMI out and two separate WiFi antennas (MIMO technology) that run on both the less-used 5GHz band and on the standard 2.4GHz band to maximize data efficiency.
The 7-inch touchscreen model on the other hand gets a smaller screen but it boasts most of the same specs as its larger counterpart, but it gets a 1280×800 pixel resolution. According to Amazon, the Kindle Fire HD’s WiFi is 41% faster than the new iPad (iPad 3).
The 8.9-inch model will be available in a 16GB model for $299 and will be released on November 20th, there will be a 4G LTE model for $499 while the smaller 7-inch model will be available for the price of $199 and will ship on September 14th, 2012.
