Apple (AAPL) has announced the latest installment of its mobile operating system, iOS 8 at the Flint Center in Cupertino, California. This is the same venue in which Steve Jobs introduced the iMac in 1998, as well as the Macintosh back in 1984.
The new iOS 8 will be compatible with the iPhone 4s, 5, 5C, 5S, iPod Touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, and the iPad mini with Retina Display. Apple portable users whose devices are compatible with the new operating system can download and install for free on September 17th.
Apple also confirmed at the live event at the Flint Center that the iOS operating system features the same aesthetic as iOS 7, but it comes with a whole new line up of features and application enhancements.
There is a new predictive text keyboard, iMessage has been updated with voice messaging and self-destructing photo features and a Health app tracks fitness activity.
