At its media event yesterday in San Francisco, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled its new iPad Air which features a much thinner design, faster processor, faster WiFi conductivity and even got more Mac like name compared to its predecessors. Apple plans to start shipping the new iPad on November 1st, it will come in silver, white, space grey and black and will start at $499.
The iPad Air weighs just one pound and powered by Apple’s new A7 chip. The new iPad tablet also have an updated camera, a 5-megapixel iSight with autofocus, face detection, backside illumination, hybrid IR filter and records videos in 1080p HD. There’s also the 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera which records video and 720p HD.
The new innovative thin iPad comes equipped with a 9.7-inch Retina display which has a 2048×1536 resolution and over 3.1 million pixels, in addition to its powerful A7 chip it also comes with a M7 coprocessor which handles some task to take away excessive work from the main processor.
iPad Air gives you up to twice the Wi-Fi performance thanks to two antennas and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) technology. With dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) 802.11n Wi-Fi and MIMO, download speeds can reach up to 300 Mbps which is double the data rate of the previous generation iPad.
The iPad Air base model will be available in all four colors and start at $499, there’s also model with cellular capabilities for $629.
