AT&T is now reporting that so many of its customers pre-ordered the Apple iPhone 5 that it has set a new record for sales in a day and over the weekend.
The carrier didn’t provide an actual number for the iPhones that has been pre-ordered so far, but they did clarify it sold more iPhone 5?s than any previous model.
AT&T’s sales were more likely to be higher than other carriers considering that AT&T has the highest number of iPhone users in the U.S. Global sales for the iPhone 4S managed to get 4 million orders on its launch weekend. Apple also added that it sold more than 2 million iPhone 5?s within 24 hours of the phone being available to pre-order.
Apple promises to start shipping the new iPhone smartphone by September 21st and with AT&T leading the way in pre-orders, million more in sales will be coming from Sprint and Verizon once it start selling this Friday.
