AT&T earlier this week completed the acquisition of Leap Wireless, the company behind Cricket Wireless. AT&T paid a total of $1.2 billion to purchase the prepaid mobile carrier, the Cricket brand will continue under the ownership of AT&T, Cricket brings a total of 4.6 million customers to AT&T.
AT&T decided to keep Cricket Brand running for its pre-paid customers in the US, and the company will relaunch the service over its GSM, HSPA+ aand LTE networks which will run alongside the CDMA operations.
Cricket’s network currently covers approximately 97 million people in 35 U.S. states, and Cricket had 4.57 million customers as of February 28, 2014. Customer migrations are expected to be completed approximately 18 months after the launch of the new Cricket.
