AT&T and Samsung announces the new ruggedized smartphone on the US market, the Samsung Rugby Smart (SGH-i847). The Rugby is an Android Smartphone that comes equipped with 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display with a 480×800 pixel resolution and was built to be tough enough to protect itself from the elements. The Rugby Smart is waterproof up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, shock resistant and dustproof.
Specifications of the Rugby Smart ruggedized smartphone includes a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of 720p HD video recording, autofocus and flash, there’s a front-facing camera for video calling. The device comes with 4GB of internal memory plus can be expand with a 32GB using the microSD card slot.
The AT&T Samsung Rugby Smart will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread out the box, no word if an upgrade to Android 4.0 is in the future and supports AT&T’s HSPA+ “4G” network. The Rugby Smart measures 122.4mm x 65.9mm x 12.19mm (4.2in x 2.6in x 0.48in) and weighs 119g (4.2oz), it packs a 1650mAh battery that delivers up to 16 days of standby or up to 8 hours of talk time. It will be available starting March 4 for $99.99 with a new contract.
