AT&T to power OnStar’s In-Vehicle 4G LTE Service

As of June 2014, OnStar will starting offering 4G LTE services in Generation 10 GM line of vehicles. The new generation of cars and trucks featuring OnStar with 4G LTE will begin hitting the roads in early June.

GMC, Cadillac, Buick and Chevrolet vehicles with the required hardware will offer WiFi in-vehicle and the ability to turn the vehicle into a WiFi Hotspot among other features.

Chevy Volt with 4GOnStar is referring to its in-vehicle wireless internet services as its most powerful service yet. Compatible vehicles will allow the user to connect up to seven devices simultaneously, some vehicles will even support a integrated touchscreen display which will allow the user to install their favorite apps such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, WeatherChannel plus users can download new app from GM’s App Shop.

For the new and exciting service, OnStar chose AT&T as the service provider for the in-vehicle wireless internet service assuming that AT&T 4GLTE coverage is more reliable than other carriers.

Verizon Wireless has been the mobile carrier that supports OnStar Hands Free Calling system for years, however AT&T will replace Verizon Wireless as the carrier on GM’s generation 10 vehicles.
