BTJunkie “voluntarily” shuts down after 7 Years of File Sharing
Veteran File Sharing website BTJunkie has closed its doors to filesharing over the internet after 7 years of free service. BT Junkie has been known as one of the top Bittorrent Search Engines but on February 5, 2012 the people behind the website decided to close its doors.

Visiting the will only display a notice on the homepage that states: “This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down. We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!”

Before closing, BT Junkie had nearly 4,000,000 active torrents and about 4,200 torrents added daily (compared to runner-up Torrent Portal with 1,500), making it the largest torrent site indexer on the web. This is the perfect time to ask the question, are the authorities winning the war?

TorrentFreak quoted the unidentified founder of BTJunkie as saying that BTJunkie’s decision to close down stemmed partly from recent legal actions against Megaupload and The Pirate Bay, which faces legal action in Europe.
