Google Play reaches 25 Billion Downloads

Google’s re-branded Android Marketplace, Google Play is now celebrating a new milestone as they have now surpassed 25 billion downloads of Android apps, video, music and other media files. And to celebrate this new milestone, Google is planning to release a week’s worth of massive discounts on applications in various categories.

Google PlayAs the new milestone is 25 billion, Google will be offering certain apps for only 25 cents to US subscribers and 25p for UK subscribers. Apps that will be sold on this special discount price comes from companies such as Electronic Arts, Rovio, Gameloft, Runtastic and Full Fat.

In addition to the 25 cent discount, Google is offering themed collections. “We’ll also be offering some special collections like 25 movies you must own, 25 banned books, 25 albums that changed the world and our 25 top-selling magazines, all at special prices,” as noted on their blog. “We look forward to the next 25 billion,” says Jamie Rosenberg, director of Digital Content.
