LaCie recently announced the new Rugged Triple USB 3.0 external hard drive which was just added to its rugged USB 3.0 storage line. Like most external hard drive from LaCie, the Rugged Triple USB 3.0 was designed by Neil Poulton and it gets the name Triple because of its triple interface – USB 3.0 with backwards compatibility to USB 2.0 and two FireWire 800 ports.
The ruggedized hard drive features four levels of rugged protection, including a 1000G shocking-resistant hard drive, internal anti-shock rubber bumpers, a shock-absorbing sleeve and an aluminum anti-scratch casing. The drive meets MIL-STD-810 standard for ruggedness and is able to withstand drops from up to two meters.
The ruggedized hard drive also supports AES 256-bit encryption technology and comes with LaCie AES 256-bit encryption software and Private-Public software to protect your data from unauthorized access. They are available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, and they both comes with LaCie Backup Assistant for automatic backup, and is compatible with Time Machine.
Both the 500GB and 1TB capacities are now available for the prices of $149.99 and $199.99, respectively plus there’s also a 7200RPM 500GB model that can deliver speeds up to 110MB/s, which is priced at $159.99.
