Motorola Faces Patent Lawsuit from Intellectual Ventures

Motorola CenterMotorola is the most recent mobility company to have a patent infringement lawsuit filed against them. Patent licensing company, Intellectual Ventures is the company filing the lawsuit against Motorola, claiming that the company had infringed upon six of their patents. Intellectual Ventures presently owns approximately 35,000 patents and they are claiming that they approached Motorola regarding licensing the patents back in January but it seems as if Motorola had refused.

The patent infringements affects a few popular Motorola devices which includes the Motorola Atrix, Photon 4G, Milestone, Triumph among others. The questions is where will this go as Google is an investor in Intellectual Ventures and Google recently announced its plans to acquire Motorola Mobility Division, so its just like Google suing themselves. One of Google’s Investments is now suing a company that Google not only plans to acquire but it also makes handsets for Google’s Android Platform.

This is irony at its best, the question is what will Google do about it or will they just stay out of it and make Motorola handle the issue by themselves?
