As one of the more affordable smartwatches on market, Pebble is celebrating the milestone of over one million units sold since the launch. It would appear that the company’s price cut on the device helped with reaching the one million units sold on December 31st.
The original Pebble Smartwatch got its price reduced to $99 while its more luxurious Steel model received a price cut down to $199 in September. To help to company build on its success, Pebble plans to release a new software platform and other smartwatch products to compete with growing competition.
According to the company, they have a new software framework which is hope to become a favorite to consumers and app designers. As the Smartwatch market steps into high gear, Pebble currently competes against Samsung, LG, Microsoft, Motorola, ASUS and Sony. There are also other companies that offers devices to consumers seeking alternate watches at a more affordable price.
