RIM BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet Made Official, Coming to the US in 2011

Blackberry PlayBook Tablet
RIM has made an announcement which should put the BlackBerry Tablet Rumors and Speculations to rest, they have unveiled the Playbook at the BlackBerry Developer’s Conference in San Francisco yesterday afternoon, so no it won’t be called the BlackBerry BlackPad/Cobalt or that could be another tablet they plan to unveil at a later date. According to RIM the PlayBook is scheduled for release in early 2011 and other countries all over should be getting it later in Q2 of 2011.

At first there were rumors that it should be released in November, it was rumored that it would be called the BlackPad/Cobalt, they also said that it would feature an 8.9-inch Display, then later it was said the screen would actually be 9.7-inch Display, we even heard that it would be priced at $499 in November. All these rumors are making me feel a bit woozy, am happy RIM finally made the announcement.

We also now know that the BlackBerry PlayBook will run an all new BlackBerry Tablet OS which they state is “An OS Built for Developers,” and to back the OS there will be a 1GHz Dual Core Processor, 1GB of RAM and should weigh less than a pound, 0.9lbs or 400g.

Thing we can expect are WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth integration, micro HDMI port, micro USB, two HD cameras (a rear 5-Megapixel and 3-Megapixel front camera), full 1080p recording capability and a 7-inch Multitouch capacitive WSVGA Display with a 1024×600 pixel resolution. We have a video that was shown to the audience at the BB DEVCON yesterday that gives a preview of the upcoming RIM BlackBerry PlayBook.
