Samsung has announced the new Galaxy Player 4.2 which is the latest member of its line of Wi-Fi-only media devices. The Galaxy Player 4.2 is a direct competitor of the Apple iPod touch, it comes equipped with a 4.2-inch WVGA touchscreen display with a 480×800 pixel resolution, it features a slim frame that measures only 8.99mm thick and weighs in at only 113g.
The touchscreen media player is powered by a 1GHz single-core processor and comes with 8GB of internal storage plus there’s also a microSD card slot that support cards up to 32GB. On the rear of the player is a 2-megapixel camera and it has a VGA camera up front for making video calls using a WiFi connection.
The Galaxy Player 4.2 can also be used for making VoIP calls given that you have a WiFi hotspot, it comes equipped with an FM radio, GPS and Bluetooth 3.0 support as well. Samsung also managed to squeezed in dual forward-facing stereo speakers and an embedded mic, the player runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS with Samsung’s custom user interface. The device promises to deliver up to 5 hours of video playback or 40 hours of music playback with its 1500mAh battery.
Samsung plans to release the new Galaxy Player 4.0 on May 13 and it will go for the price of $199.99 and will be bundled with a set of stereo headphones complete with an inline-remote and microphone.
