Samsung has unveiled what they are claiming to be the world’s thinnest external optical drive, the device has been named Samsung SE-218BB, an external DVD burner. The device comes with an casing that measures a mere 14mm thick which makes the SE-218BB 18% thinner than the conventional external DVD burners.
According to the company, it was designed for users who lives a mobile lifestyle and can be used with either Ultrabooks or tablets. The sleek and lightweight drive also connects through its single USB port for power and AV connectivity to PCs and Notebook computers.
The DVD burner is compatible with writing DVD+/-R at 8x, DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RW at 6x, DVD+/-R Dual Layer at 6x, DVD-RAM at 5x as well as CD-R/RW at 24x. The drive includes Buffer Under Run technology to prevent errors result from writing speeds that can exceed data transfer speeds.
