Sony is launching another pocket camcorder that is protected from the elements, the Handycam GW55VE, a ruggedized HD camcorder that comes in a compact form factor. The Handycam GW55VE comes with IP58 and MIL-STD 810F certification meaning it will remain working up to 5 meters submerged, it is also shockproof to withstand drops not more than 1.5 meters and dustproof.
Other than its ruggedness, the GW55VE gets a Exmor R CMOS sensor which enables the device to capture still images with a 20.4-Megapixel quality, it records Full HD 1920x1080p videos at 50fps in MPEG4-AVC/H.264 AVCHD format, it has a built-in GPS feature that automatically logs location data, features a Sony G lens with 10x optical zoom and has a flip-out 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD display that proves useful when previewing recorded content.
The Sony Pocket Camcorder measures 32.2mm x 105.5mm x70.2mm and weighs about 188g so lugging around won’t be a hassle, it supports microSD/SDHC and Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards for storage plus you will like its Self Portrait Timer, Face Detection and Intelligent AUTO that recognizes up to 99 scene types. Sony will release the GW55VE on the Europe market this may in the color options of white and black.
