Sony PlayStation 2 discontinued in Japan

Sony Playstation 2The Sony PlayStation 3 has been around so long, who would have thought that the PlayStation 2 was still in production.

According to the Japanese PlayStation website, the PS2 has now officially been discontinued in the region. Famitsu, a Japanese site also added that shipments of the console have ended, so once stock has been sold out no more units will be available.

Since its inception, the Sony has sold over 150 million units of the PlayStation 2 worldwide and now hold the title of the best selling console in history. There’s no word if the PlayStation 2 is being shipped in other regions but its retirement in Japan means that it could be exiting the global market really soon.
