In addition to the Xperia P Smartphone, Sony also announced the Xperia U at the Mobile World Congress going on in Barcelona, Spain. Like the Xperia P, the U also comes from the company’s NXT smartphone series in which the Xperia U is the most affordable.
It is equipped with a 3.5-inch Reality display with Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA technology, it features a smaller frame than its sibling but is also powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor. The U comes with a unique feature, the end caps can be interchanged allowing the user to customize their device, option to choose whether pink or yellow and one extra will be included in the box plus the smartphone also comes with an enhanced audio system.
The Xperia U has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera capable of HD video recording, it has 3D surround sound audio built-in, xLoud feature and a transparent element that changes colors depending on the photos being viewed or the music playing on the smartphone.
The Sony Xperia U will be launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS but as the Xperia P, Sony promises to upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich later this year. No pricing info was released but it will make its market debut in Europe Q2 of 2012 in Black or White options.
