Western Digital has announced a new storage device aimed at users who wants to backup their files from just about anywhere. The company just announced the My Cloud EX2, an external storage solution that can be connected to your PC or Mac via a USB port or connected directly to a network.
The My Cloud EX2 comes with RAID 1 set up to protect the user’s data right out the box and can also be configured in RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD, and spanning modes. In the press release introducing the My Cloud EX2, WD also promised potential buyers that modes are easy to change so that the storage solution can be customized to suit your needs.
The device is available in the storage capacities of 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB. There are smartphone apps available for iOS and Android mobile devices allowing all your devices to backup data to one device. Windows users can use WD SmartWare Pro software for backups, while Mac users can back up to the drive using Apple Time Machine.
